A first-year spelling challenge initiative was organised in Borris Vocational School during the last term for students to participate in. One hundred students began by answering the correct spelling of fifty words which had been submitted by their core subject teachers.
Then forty students took part in a 'live' spelling test in their English class which consisted of a range of spellings from their option subject teachers. Finally twelve students took part in the grand final which consisted of students learning over one hundred English spellings which were indeed very challenging.
On the day, Ms Brennan who was quiz person asked the finalists ten spellings each and then the top seven entered into 'the last student to get all of the spellings correct' contest.
Ms Atkinson (Year Head) is delighted to announce that the three runner-up prizes went to: Nessa Dowling and Daniel Wade (1 Elm) along Sean Grennan (1 Oak) but the overall winner getting all twenty-one spellings correct was Ellen Ward (1 Oak), which was a massive achievement. Well done to all students on reaching the final.
