Pope John Paul 2 Award

Two BVS fifth year students were among a group who were awarded the John Paul 2 awards in Portlaoise on Wednesday 6th December. Ciaran Murphy and Liam Hogan took part in the Pope John Paul 2 award for the last year. Ciaran received the gold award and Liam received the papal cross award. For the gold award you must complete twenty weeks of community involvement and twenty weeks of parish involvement within the church, for the papal cross award you must complete twenty six weeks.
Some of the jobs they completed for the parish involvement within the church were reading, distributing communion and bringing up the gifts. For the community involvement they participated in gardening or helping the elderly in a nursing home.
The experience was amazing and the students would like to thank Mr. Healy for all of his hard work throughout the course.

Ciaran Murphy receives his John Paul Gold Award from Bishop Denis Nulty. Also shown is Religion Teacher Mr Patrick Healy
