ECO-UNESCO  Semi-Final

ecounesco
Eight students from Borris Vocational School, along with their teacher Ms. Atkinson, traveled to Dublin on Monday the 16th of April to participate in the semi-finals of the Young Environmentalist competition at the ECO-UNESCO Den event.
Four of the eight students made a presentation to a group of four judges. In the presentation the students explained the project they undertook to enter into the competition. The students delivered a pitch and showed a PowerPoint containing information and pictures of the project. In the pitch the students explained how the school's TY Garden Club, Green School's Committee and Horticulture class came together to partake in the project.
For their project the students designed and created a vertical garden on one of the school's walls. They decided to tackle the environmental issue of the over usage of non-reusable plastic bottles in the school. The students collected plastic bottles for three weeks and planned on using them in the garden as plant pots. The students also designed the garden by painting the walls with the seasons of the year. They are now in the process of putting the plastic bottles on the wall and putting up old gutters to create a self watering system for the plants.
The students successfully delivered their presentation and are now waiting to hear if they have made it to the finals of the competition which will take place on Tuesday the 22nd of May.
